Men & Women's Day: The Legacy |
||
|
On Saturday August 23rd, 2003, the Emanuel AME Church will present the play "A Killing in Choctaw." While I will admit the title bears concern, the message is truly awe-inspiring. The one-act play performed by Mr. Carl Raye, tells the story of how as a young boy in Choctaw, Alabama, Mr. Raye witnessed the death of his father at the hands of white people. The story then tells how Mr. Raye, a graduate of Tuskegee, had to overcome the emotional scars and pain left from that terrible day. These emotional scars led to a breakdown, anger, denial and a feeling of helplessness for Mr. Raye. However, through the grace of God and his friends, Mr. Raye was able to not only rise from the terrible ordeal, he was able to utilize his talents to help others in their lives. His story is one of triumph, courage, and a refusal to submit to the pitfalls of life. We are certain you will feel the same when you see this story. We would like to take this opportunity to invite you to join us as we celebrate our Men and Women's Day on Saturday August 23, 2003 and Sunday August 24, 2003. The one-man play will take place on Saturday August 23, 2003 at The Smithfield Community Center (i.e. The Bethlehem House) 421 8th Ave North Birmingham Al 35217. The tickets are only $10.00 and can be purchased at the door or by contacting Emanuel AME Church 922 4th Street North Birmingham AL 35204. You may also contact us at our email address, emanuelame@mail.com, or by calling either 205 324-9044 or 205 586-1952. We are sure you will be blessed when you witness the power of believing in the "Killing in Choctaw." Our annual Men and Women's Day program will take place on Sunday August 25, 2003 during the 11:00 a.m. worship hour. The program will highlight men and women working together to serve the Lord's holy cause of salvation. The speaker for the event will be Mr. Carl Raye, creator, and principle performer of the renowned "A Killing in Choctaw". The event will also feature guests, musicians, and others. We look forward to seeing you during this very special weekend. |
